What are the downloadable building kits?
Scenerybuilder.com kits are in PDF format and can be downloaded FREE. You then print the model and follow the instructions to mount onto card and build the kit.

I have seen some not very realistic card kits, can card really be used to produce a good model?
Card is ideal for model buildings, take a look at the Pendon Museum scenes for example. However, not many people can spend thousands of hours on each building like their modellers do, so I have put the work in to produce good quality realistic model building kits which you can build in a fraction of the time.

What kind of printer do I need?
For models up to 4mm/ft scale, any A4 colour printer will do, scales larger than 4mm/ft will need an A3 colour printer.

What kind of paper do the kits need to be printed on?
Plain white 80gsm (grams per square metre) for the building structure and textures (thicker paper is not as good for corner folding), windows and doors are best printed on premium glossy photo paper (220 - 250gsm).

What kind of card do I need?
Scenerybuilder.com kits are specifically designed to be used with cereal box card. This saves you money and is the best form of recycling as it doesn’t even use any energy. Some thinner packaging card will also be needed occasionally.

Is cereal box card strong enough?
It is surprisingly good, in most cases the structure comprises a double thickness laminated together, (approx. 1.2mm) sometimes before cutting out and sometimes after so that the corners can be stepped to produce a strong joint. There is also an internal structure to keep everything straight.

What is PDF format?
Portable Document Format. This format ensures that when you print the document,

everything is the right size and in the right place ensuring your model is to scale.

You will need the free Adobe Reader to read and print it, download it here...

How are the PDF kits created?

Scenerybuilder.com kits are created by a combination of CAD and photographs combined and edited using Serif PhotoPlusX3. The building features are accurately assembled to provide realistic textures, brick by brick, ensuring that they wrap around corners and reveals. The images are then brought together with text and graphics in the desktop publishing programme, Serif PagePlusX4

I will go into more detail about how the kits are designed and created in a future blog series.

What skills do I need to build Scenerybuilder.com kits?

The kit instructions are as concise as I can manage, provided these are followed and patience is exercised, any modeller should be able to achieve a pleasing result.

What if I make a mistake?

No problem! All you have to do is reprint the sheet(s) affected, re-cut  the part(s) which went wrong and carry on. That’s another brilliant thing about Scenerybuilder.com kits, mistakes cost next to nothing and you always learn by them and make a better job next time.

Can I pass the PDF files on to my friends?

How is Scenerybuilder.com funded?

The development of the initial kits, textures and website is completely out of my own pocket and in my own time. I have added advertising which I hope will offset costs as website traffic increases. I have also added a PayPal donate button at the bottom of each page (including this one) where secure donations can be made. You can also help by making use of the bookshop and amazon search feature.
